In the Clouds: Mexico City

Lets go to Mexico City with Laura Irene Sosa.

Traveling in a Covid World: Visiting the number one most populated city in Latin America, Mexico City.

Covid-19 requirements to travel to Mexico City: To travel to Mexico City during Covid-19 you don’t need anything covid related, unless required by your airline. To travel back to the USA from Mexico City, however, you need a negative Covid-19 test.

Covid-19 antigen test, taken one day before traveling back. Covid-19 travel requirements are constantly changing. Click here to read on Covid 19 travel updates to Mexico City.

Why Mexico City during Covid 19:

Best Covid-19 Practices: Visiting a the most populated city in Latin America amidst covid sounds like I’m looking for trouble. Luckily, Mexico City implements the healthiest Covid-19 practices I’ve seen! Better than the USA, and better than France.

Mexico and Mexicans take Covid-19 seriously. Before entering any premise, you are given hand sanitizer and sprayed down with disinfectant. That’s right- they make you spin around to spray you all over.

Additionally, unless you are in a restaurant, if your mask is not placed on your face correctly, they are not afraid to ask visitors to adjust it.

Places to visit in Mexico City:

Museums and Institutions: Mexico City is one of the cities with the most museums in the world!

During our visit, we visited the Palacio de Bellas Artes for the Ballet Folklorico and the National Museum of Anthropology.

Tickets to the ballet were $15 each, but tickets to the Palacio de Bellas Artes are $3. Tickets to the National Museum of Anthropology are $2-$3.

If you’re foodie: Panaderia Rosetta, stunning little coffee shop with great pastries.

Contramar, best seafood, I recommend the grilled fish and the tuna tostadas (WOW). Churros: Casa Churra, best churros and Spanish chocolate.

Things to do:

There’s something to do for everyone! If you’re a book worm: visit El Pendulo. A four-level bookstore that is also a café. And yes, they carry books in English, too.

If you’re a shopper: Mexico City has some of the best thrift stores I have seen!

Some can be very pricy, but they carry beautiful unique pieces.

Aesthetics: Like any city, there areas in Mexico City that aren’t appealing to the eye. But, there are other areas that take to another era- one of romantic love in a intellectual vintage movie.

Areas like Roma, Condesa, Juarez, or Coyoacan are beautiful!! Very art deco, mixed with old Spanish homes, with a vintage twist.

Mexico City is also more than 7,000 ft. above sea level.

Rain is a constant and consequently, so is beautiful greenery and ongoing flower foliage that hang beautifully from sweet corners of the city. You will notice pockets of greenery that feel foresty in Mexico’s plazas or parques (square). These can be found about every so 5-6 blocks.
